For over thirty years, the Speakers’ Bureau was an invaluable resource that the Holocaust Commission provided to Hampton Roads’ schools, colleges, military facilities, Jewish Sunday schools, and other organizations. Local Holocaust survivors shared their personal accounts of courage and survival during the Holocaust with tens of thousands of students and military personnel.
As time passed, the survivors available to speak have become fewer, but their stories remain.

What We Carry Program
The What We Carry program, was designed to supplement the Speakers’ Bureau and has ultimately become the Speakers’ Bureau’s voice. It combines documentary film of interviews of the last four speakers, Dana Cohen, David Katz, Hanns Loewenbach, and Kitty Saks, with archival footage. The film is presented by a trained docent who brings along a suitcase for display which holds replicas of artifacts and mementos the survivors retained from their wartime experiences.
