1503 Diversity – Ishmael Khaldi

Ishmael Khaldi is an Arab-Muslim-Israeli who holds the distinction of being the first Bedouin appointed as a diplomat in Israel’s Foreign Ministry. Since that historic occasion in 2004, Khaldi has continued to represent his homeland: in San Francisco as Israel’s Deputy Consul General, in Jerusalem as Policy Advisor to the Foreign Minister, and now in London as Counselor for Civil Society Affairs at the Embassy of Israel. Author of the 2010 memoir A Shepherd’s Journey, Khaldi is a patriot and ardent supporter of Israel who served with the Israeli Defense Forces and the Israeli Police. He brings a unique and honest perspective to diversity in Israel today.

Gil Troy is one of today’s most prominent activists fighting against the delegitimization of Israel. A respected political historian, Troy is the author of 8 books, including the new, highly acclaimed Moynihan’s Moment: America’s Fight Against Zionism as Racism. Troy is Professor of History at McGill University and a Research Fellow in the Shalom Hartman Institute’s Engaging Israel Program. He writes a weekly column for The Jerusalem Post, is Editor-at-Large of The Daily Beast‘s Open Zion blog, and his commentary and opinions appear regularly in major media outlets, such as The New York Times and The New Republic
