1360 In Every Generation
Women’s Seder Featuring the JDC Haggadah
Presented by UJFT Women’s Outreach Committee and the Simon Family JCC
Open to All Jewish Women and Their Daughters 16+
Sunday, March 17 | Noon – 2 PM

Kim Fink, Amy Lefcoe and Janet Mercadante have their work cut out for them this Passover. The three women, Reform, Orthodox and Conservative, respectively, have agreed to work together to create a women’s seder, an event they hope will be one most memorable of the year for the Jewish Women’s Outreach Committee of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater.

Open to all Jewish women and their daughters 16 and older, the 2013 Jewish Women’s Outreach Seder takes place from noon until 2 pm. on Sunday, March 17. The seder will be held at the Simon Family JCC and costs $10, to help offset the cost of the kosher lunch that will be served during the program.

The women have chosen In Every Generation: the JDC Haggadah as the book they will follow in retelling the story of the Jews’ exodus from Egypt. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) created this haggadah as a way to help contemporary Jews connect the biblical story of the Exodus to important modern-day liberations—literal and figurative—that continue to deserve our attention. Sandy Katz of the JDC will be joining the assembled. She will bring to the table real-life accounts of the work of the JDC featured in the haggadah.

“This Haggadah is both old and new,” writes Rabbi Joseph Telushkin in the book’s foreword. “Old in the sense that it contains every word of the traditional text that has guided and inspired Jewish life for generations. And it is new in the sense that it demonstrates, through vivid photographs and delightful commentary, how the Seder and its themes continue to be lived and relived in our contemporary world.”
