Parents and children have warm memories of that special time right before bedtime, when snuggled together they end the day with a book.  Reading stories and listening to music are among the most powerful and nurturing early childhood learning experiences.

Realizing this to be true, the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and Simon Family JCC are thrilled to launch The PJ Library, a new initiative that will touch the heart and soul of your family.

Conceived as a giving library, The PJ Library (PJ as in pajamas) will provide your family with a treasury of Jewish books and CDs.  Each child, six months to eight, you enroll in The PJ Library will receive a monthly gift of a Jewish book or CD absolutely free.*  Along with the gift of books and music, you will receive parenting resources to enhance your PJ Library experience.

A team of children’s literature, music and education experts selects The PJ Library books and CDs that communicate Jewish stories, heritage and values by catching the eyes and ears of young children.

Specialists have long touted the developmental and emotional benefits of introducing children to the written word and music at early ages.  Books and music, the staples of childhood, have the added benefit of being a natural conversation starter for families eager to instill deep and passionate Jewish feelings in their children.  The PJ Library is sure to be an essential part of your family’s growing Jewish library.

Thanks to the generosity of our local funders, the Simon Family Foundation Foundation, The PJ Library is free for children, ages six months to eight years old, to register.
